Social media. That’s what I’ve been teaching to Yoga Teachers for the past 3 years. It’s a hot topic for pretty much anyone who has a computer or a cell phone but for yoga teachers, the mystery is real.

There are plenty of coaches, mentors, teachers, and influencers on the interwebs telling us that social media is the only way to spread the word about what you offer. And for some time, I was among them.

Until I made the realization that rocked my world. E-mail.

When I discovered e-mail marketing on my own journey I may have actually heard angles swoop in with a resounding AHHHHH!

Like most things, I am so excited that I want to shout from the rooftops, “IT’S TIME TO START E-MAILING YOUR CLIENTS.”

The reason I love e-mail so much is because it has always been my mission to make growing your yoga business easy. So today, I’m going to spend some time convincing you. I’m going to let you in on what I call E-mail Ease.

So here it is. 5 reasons why you should get started with e-mail today (or like yesterday).

Reason 1: Social Media is Unpredictable

Let’s face it, social media tycoons like Instagram, Facebook, and Tiktok are changing every single day. The algorithm is a maniac. If anyone tells you they’ve figured it out, it’s probably changing the next day.

Because of this, social media can be incredibly frustrating. You spend a ton of time creating well-thought out content, taking selfies, and pouring over Canva. All for what? So 2 people can like it?

From most yoga teachers, I hear social media doesn’t get them many results:

“I put a lot of effort in for very little reward.”

“It’s not bringing in new clients.”

“It’s really just a headache.”

“I don’t want to be online all the time.”

I relate so much to these sentiments! This is the first reason that e-mail marketing is magic.

E-mail is predictable. You write out what you want to say, you send it, and it gets delivered straight to people’s inbox. It’s as simple as that.

Reason 2: Your E-Mail List Belongs to You

Because social media is so unpredictable, at any given time these things could happen:

  • Your account can get hacked : When this happens, you lose access to your account, your friend list, your past content, and your previous messages. This is a nightmare for anyone who relies on social media for business!
  • Platforms can go down: We’ve seen it before. Facebook stops working for a day. Instagram stops refreshing their feed for a few hours. Because social media platforms are hosted on servers, there’s always a possibility of those servers crashing, malfunctioning, or going down. Again, another nightmare for people who rely on social media for their livelihood.
  • There is a glitch: I’ve heard so many other horror stories from people. Your Facebook page stops working, all of your friends get removed, you lose drafts of reels. There’s so much that can go wrong with these platforms; I’m starting to lose count.

When you get your e-mail list started and begin growing it, you realize this list belongs to you and only you.

We hope that nothing will go wrong with your social pages but if it does, you can operate confidently knowing that you’ve got your e-mail list. This ensures you never have to worry about spreading the word of what you offer to people who really need it.

Reason 3: Delivery is Guaranteed

Another terrible thing about the social media algorithm is it is literally stopping people from seeing what you post.

Did you know…

Only 10% of followers see your new feed post on Instagram.

And on Facebook? About 1.2% of your followers are likely to engage on your feed posts.

Those numbers are so low there’s no wonder we get frustrated on social media.

In comes e-mail… Yet another magical piece of the email pie is that delivery to your audience is *almost* guaranteed (as long as your message doesn’t go to spam).

That means what you prepare is at least making it in front of their eyes. This is half the battle.

Even better? E-mail open, click through, and conversion rates are MUCH higher than social media engagement rates (and they’re easier to track!).

Here are some numbers from Mailchimp you might like to see to get a better idea of how well emails perform:

  • The average email open rate is 21.33%
  • The average click through rate is 2.62%

These numbers BLOW social media out of the water. Need I say more?

Reason 4: It Helps You Create Content

One of my favorite ways to make creating content easier is by repurposing or recycling from emails and blogs. So after I create an e-mail, I am likely to pull 3 or 4 different pieces from that email to create 3 or 4 separate pieces of content.

As an example:

I send an email newsletter to my audience that includes:

  • My theme for the month
  • A pose of the month
  • My class schedule
  • An upcoming retreat I am hosting

From this newsletter, I can literally copy and paste those sections and create a post for social media. It’s really that easy!

Reason 5: It’s Easy

This leads me to my last point, e-mail is easy! It’s easy for all the reasons I listed above and it’s easy because there are SO many platforms that do most of the work for you.

Platforms like Convertkit, MailChimp, and Klaviyo have pre-made templates, they help you easily separate your audience, and they make sure your message gets to the right people.

E-mail is as easy as: Create + Send
